SUBJECT:            Suggestions for College Committee Membership Nomination

 

On behalf of the College Nominating Committee, I would like to invite you to nominate colleagues or yourself for the College Executive Committee, College Rules Committee, and College representative to the Senate Assembly.  Listed below are the membership needs for the three elected committees and Ombuds position:

The Executive Committee has two (2) vacancies.  (6 members serving 3-year terms.)  Current members are: Professors E. Atkins (AERO), A. Cohn (IOE), O. Eniola-Adefeso (ChE), J. Fessler (ECE), J. Foster (NERS), and K. Kurabayashi (ME).  The terms of Professors Atkins and Fessler will expire this academic year.

Only tenured full professors are eligible to serve on this committee.  This year, their primary appointment cannot be in ChE, IOE, ME or NERS, since these departments / divisions are already represented.

The Faculty Rules Committee has one (1) vacancy.  (3 members serving 3-year terms.)  Current members are: Professors A. Demond (CEE), D. Dowling (ME), and Q. Stout (CSE).  The term of Professor Stout will expire this academic year.

Any member of the governing faculty of CoE is eligible.  This includes tenure-track faculty, research scientists and research professors, lecturers of more than one-year standing, and professors of practice.

The Senate Assembly has two (2) vacancies this year.  (8 members serving 3-year terms*.)  Current members are: Professors E. Byon (IOE), O. Jenkins (CSE), E. Kannatey-Asibu (ME), S. Lepri (CLaSP), X. Liang (ME), A. Liu (ME), M. Shtein (MSE), and E. Soloway (CSE).  The terms of Professors Kannatey-Asibu and Shtein will expire this academic year.

*The Senate Assembly recently notified the College of Engineering of a vacancy due to a reapportionment for the College from seven to eight members effective 1 September 2019.  Professor Liang was the runner up in the 2018-19 elections and will fill the vacancy with his term ending in 2021.

Any member of the faculty senate who has more than a 50% appointment in CoE is eligible.  This includes tenure-track faculty, research scientists and research professors.

The Ombuds has one no vacancy this year. (1 member serving a 2-year term.)

The Nominating Committee appointed to develop a proposed election ballot is composed of the following: Professors C. Chestek (BME), J. Driscoll (AERO), H.V. Jagadish (CSE), R. Laine (MSE), J. Mathieu (ECE), R. McBride (NERS), J. Ni (ME), and L. Seiford (IOE).

The Committee would appreciate receiving your nominations by Monday, November 11, 2019.  Please email your suggestions to the Nominating Committee at [email protected].  All names will remain confidential until the nominees accept being listed on the ballot.

A draft of the on-line ballot and biographical sketches will be made available to you prior to the February 2020 College faculty meeting at http://vote.umich.edu.  Thank you for nominating candidates for the College committees.
